Jewellery Care

Sterling silver and gold vermeil are living surfaces. Looked after, a piece outlasts you. Ignored, it dulls. Neither takes much effort.

The short version

Last thing on, first thing off. Put your jewellery on after perfume, sunscreen, and moisturiser; take it off before you shower, swim, exercise, or sleep.

Sterling silver

925 silver tarnishes. That is the metal reacting with sulphur in the air, not a fault, and it reverses. Rub gently with a silver polishing cloth until the shine returns. Do not use toothpaste or abrasive cleaners — they scratch the surface permanently.

Our pieces are hand-finished with a soft matte tone. Heavy polishing will gradually bring them to a high shine, which some people prefer. Polish lightly if you want to keep the matte.

14k gold vermeil

Vermeil is real gold bonded to solid silver, but it is a surface layer and it does wear. Never use a polishing cloth or any chemical cleaner on vermeil — you will take the gold off. Wipe with a soft dry cloth only.

Chlorine, salt water, and perfume shorten its life considerably. Keep it away from all three.

Storage

Store pieces dry, apart from each other, and out of the air — a small zip bag or a lined box is ideal. Silver stored loose in a drawer will tarnish faster and scratch against other pieces.

Chains

Undo the clasp before taking a necklace off rather than pulling it over your head. Most broken chains break that way.
